Basic Theology: Sufficiency of Scriptures Part 02

Sufficiency of scripture 02

Previous: Sufficiency of scripture 01

Hebrews 4:12, For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

The greatest weapon for every one of us is the Word of God. It’s sharper than any other weapon. There is no weapon like the Word, no weapon.
The Word of God is
    ✓ living,
    ✓ active,
    ✓ powerful,
✓ sharper than any other weapon.

The Word of God opens the soul.
It penetrates.
It breaks up the heart.
It reveals.
It is sufficient to penetrate the deepest part of a person’s soul.

Luke 11:28, But He said, “More than that, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!”

All spiritual sufficiency is guaranteed in hearing and obeying the Word of God!

James 1:23-25, For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; 24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.

James says it is the perfect law.
Another word for perfect is complete.

Apostle Luke identified the most noble Christians in a little town called Berea in Greece.

Acts 17:11, These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.

Spiritual nobility belongs to those who receive the Word of God with readiness of mind.

They received the Word of God and they searched the Scriptures every day.

The key to adequate living is not the Bible plus a lot of stuff. It is the Word of God pursued with readiness and eagerness and searched out every day! It’s a daily diet, not a weekly/ monthly/yearly diet.

Noble spirituality is tied to a daily study of the Word of God. That’s where the strength comes to deal with life and in that we have the sufficiency.

Colossians 3:16, Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

When you have the Word God dwells with you richly then you are bound to have,
    ✓ A happy life,
    ✓ A joyous heart,
    ✓ A singing spirit,
    ✓ Good relationships,
    ✓ Enriched marriage,
    ✓ Fulfilling family life, and
    ✓ Satisfying profession.

One can have all these when you have mind of Christ, Word of God filled heart and Word of God controlled mind.

1 Peter 2:2, as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby,

Moving toward Christlikeness is tied to your desire for the Word of God. As we all know how much a baby wants milk similar way a believer should long for the Word of God. When your heart seeks that and desires that daily, you will find spiritual strength.

2 Peter 1:3, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,

When we come to know Him, and He is revealed through His Word, we are able to possess to have all the resources that allow us to be able to face anything in our life.

This is the only main reason I take great effort to teach the Word of God.

Apostle Paul when he was meeting with the Ephesian elders, he said to them I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you.
Acts 20:20, how I kept back nothing that was helpful, but proclaimed it to you, and taught you publicly and from house to house,

I gave you everything profitable and he didn’t hold back anything.

Acts 20:27, For I have not shunned to declare to you the whole counsel of God.
I have declared you the whole counsel of God.

Finally, he commends them to the Word of God.
Acts 20:32, “So now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.

The Word of God is all you need. The Word of God is profitable and will strengthen you.

Colossians 2:3-4, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. 4 Now this I say lest anyone should deceive you with persuasive words.

Everything you need to know about wisdom and knowledge, you find in Christ. So, no believer should be looking elsewhere.

Colossians 2:7-8, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.8 Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ.

When you are rooted in Him then you won’t be swayed by the empty deceit and philosophy.

Colossians 2:10, and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.

You are complete in Christ.
For the Spirt, Heart and Soul needs of their deepest level for those who know God only God provides our sufficiency through His Word.

Apostle John writes in his Epistle very clearly.
1 John 2:20, But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things.
You have received the anointing of the Holy one, who is God and you know all things to your spiritual life.

1 John 2:21, I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and that no lie is of the truth.
Christians know the truth by revelation in God’s Word.

1 John 2:27, But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.

The Holy Spirit will teach you all things! We know all things by the Word of God and the Spirit of God

1 Thessalonians 2:11- 13, as you know how we exhorted, and comforted, and charged every one of you, as a father does his own children, 12 that you would walk worthy of God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory. 13 For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe.

Apostle Paul wanted them to behave in a way that would be honouring to God. So, he taught them as a father to the children.

You have received the Word of God as Word of God! And that Word of God performs miracles when you believe in that word.

Word of God and the Spirit of God works in you when belief,
the work of
    ➢ maturing,
    ➢ strengthening,
    ➢ building,
    ➢ growth, and
    ➢ making you into Christlikeness.

The word of God will perform its work when you committed yourselves, to the Word of God, not as if it were the word of men, but as it is in truth the Word of God!
Let us hear from one of the noblemen lived on the earth certified God Himself, Job.

Job who lost everything, the devil came, took away everything,
    o his possessions,
    o his land,
    o his crops,
    o his animals,
o his family in terrible death,
    o his own health.

A man in absolute deprivation and destitution. What comes out of his mouth!

Job 23:12, I have not departed from the commandment of His lips; I have treasured the words of His mouth More than my necessary food.

The Word of God has a higher priority to me than my food.

Deuteronomy 6:4-6, “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one! 5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.6 “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart.

This was the summary of the law! One ought to love the Lord God with all of their heart, soul and spirit.

Deuteronomy 6:7-9, You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. 8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

You take the word of God!
You teach it to your children!!

You talk about it to your children when you
    ✓ stand up,
    ✓ sit down,
    ✓ lie down,
    ✓ walk in the way
✓ write it on your hand
✓ write it on your head
✓ write it on your door, and
✓ write it on your gates.

Primary key to our living is that: Everywhere you go, you are always aware of the Word of the living God. This is the key to living.
